What a {Fri}day for a Daydream: Zzzz

Today I'm dreaming of sleeping ... until later than 5:30 am. I would take 6:30, 6:15 even. Waking up with the sun everyday is not my idea of a good time. But as far as Max is concerned, sun-up equals party time.

I know I have no right to complain - there are lots of moms who get less sleep than me, and I have it pretty good these days, considering that until he was about a year old, Max still woke an average of 4 times a night. Now he sleeps from 8pm until 5:30 in the morning, usually all the way through. I guess I'm getting greedy :) And with a toddler, you need all the extra sleep you can get!

So my plan is to make curtains for Max's room. (Right now he only has blinds, and sunlight filters right through them.) When I say make, I mean that in the most basic terms - as in cutting the fabric, using iron-on hems, and hanging with clips. I'll probably try hanging the fabric by itself before hemming, to see if it blocks enough light to keep Max sleeping a little later in the mornings. If not, then I'll have to get craftier and figure out how to line them with blackout fabric.

I've had a few fabric swatches hanging around for a while and have narrowed it down to these three choices.

The general color scheme is green, navy and white, with pops of bright colors like orange and red (basically the colors in the pillow seen on the chair below). I want it to be a little bit preppy and a little bit playful, something he can grow into and make his own!

But I'm also liking something simple like this wide navy stripe you can check out at fabrics.com. What do you think? Leave a comment and tell me your favorite ... or any other ideas you may have, I'm having a hard time committing!!

This is on my "do as soon as possible" list, so I'll keep you posted on project get-more-sleep!

  1. Oh! All 3 of those are great! I really like the zig zag though.

  2. The zig zag was my first choice, and then I started second guessing myself! May have to go with my first instinct after all :)
